Toward an Integral Epistemology
|
The emerging worldview of the 21st century will certainly be different from the outdated worldviews of previous eras. So, now is the critical time in which to shape its core epistemological orientation. As we see the rapid rise of fundamentalism around the globe, one view on this troubling phenomenon is that it is a result of the epistemological failures of the modern and postmodern worldviews. Neither of these views adequately incorporates the full breadth of the planet's multiple ways of knowing into a viable and optimistic path forward into the future. Is global fundamentalism thus a reaction to the failed visions of modernity and postmodernity? How would the world respond to a clear and persuasive articulation of an integrated epistemological vision for humanity? This annual conference will address some of these core issues: What constitutes valid knowledge and the procedures for knowing? What epistemologies are valid in a multi-cultural and globalized world? Why is the rigid epistemology called "fundamentalism" growing so rapidly? What elements of modern and post-modern epistemology are worth keeping? Which ones are worth letting go, or expanding and transforming? What are the key differences between a vibrant and integrative epistemology and post-modern epistemological relativism? Check back here in the future for more information and conference summaries. |
