Frank Poletti, M.A.

Esalen CTR Conference Affiliation(s): general

Frank Poletti, M.A., is both the Coordinator for Esalen Institute’s Center for Theory and Research (CTR) and adjunct professor at John F. Kennedy graduate school in California, where he teaches courses on Evolutionary Psychology and Consciousness Studies.

For Esalen, Frank coordinates several annually repeating think-tank conferences that bring together into dialogue a wide array of scientists, scholars, spiritual practitioners, environmentalists, and corporate executives. Recent conference topics at Esalen have included "Evolutionary Metaphysics," "Integral and Ecological Capitalism," and "Esotericism and Non-ordinary States of Consciousness."

Frank also is finishing his Ph.D. thesis at the California Institute for Integral Studies in San Francisco. His thesis employs the tool of archetypal astrology (as taught by Richard Tarnas) to look at specific historical and evolutionary developments in humanity's collective psyche.

Frank aims to incorporate his dissertation into a larger book tentatively titled, "Ambassadors of Awakening: Archetypal Astrology and the Emergence of Planetary Culture and Consciousness Since 1750." This book will present historical evidence in support of the thesis that the evolution of consciousness can be made more intelligible and convincing by employing archetypal astrology to illuminate meaningful patterns in human history.

His presentation experience includes a standing ovation speech titled "Global Consciousness as An Emergent Property: How An Evolutionary Perspective Can Inspire Participation in Our Global Moment," which was given at the Global Renaissance Alliance conference in Detroit in July 2002. He was a speaker in November 2002 at the Cosmological Imagination Conference in Berkeley, California. Frank also presents periodically at CTR conferences at Esalen.

His recent publications include a focus section in the journal World Futures featuring translated articles by Italian evolutionary epistemologists Mauro Ceruti and Telmo Pievani on the topics of complexity, recursion, and planetary ethics. His other published articles in World Futures include: "Plato’s Vowels: How the Alphabet Influenced the Evolution of Consciousness"; a book review of The Narrative Universe by Mauro Ceruti and Gianluca Bocchi; and a summary of a recent conference at Esalen titled "The Emergence of a Sustainable Future: Brainstorming Better Ways to Globalize at the Esalen Institute."
