Owen Flanagan, Ph.D.

Owen Flanagan, Ph.D., is the James B. Duke Professor in the Department of Philosphy at Duke University and is also on the Core Faculty of the Graduate Program in Cognitive Neuroscience. The former chair of philosophy at Wellesley college, his specialties include philosophy of mind, philosophy of psychology; ethics, moral psychology, and contemporary ethical theory. A series editor for the Philosophy of Mind Series for Oxford University Press, he has received numerous research fellowships and visiting scholar positions and is considered a leading contributor to the emerging field of consciousness studies. The author of more than 50 journal articles and reviews, some of his published books include Dreaming Souls: Sleep, Dreams, and the Evolution of the Conscious Mind, Oxford (2000), Self-Expressions: Mind, Morals, and The Meaning of Life, Oxford (1996), Conciousness Reconsidered, MIT (1992), and The Science of the Mind MIT (2 editions, 1984, 1991).
